This is a few days late I suppose, but the Dark Was the Night show at Radio City happened this past Sunday, and it was amazing. Check out Brooklyn Vegan for indubitable coverage, also check out every other blog in existence. NPR has a full audio recording at All Songs Considered, and This Blog has some National-centric audio and links to lots of pictures n’ stuff.
The National and Bon Iver were the highlights for me, they’re two of my favorite artists and they really turned it out for this show. With the acoustics at Radio City they sounded as good as I’ve ever heard; that place was designed for carrying harmonies to the rafters. Though really, there weren’t any disappointments in the lineup except for My Brightest Diamond only playing one song. Girl can sing. The National played two new songs, and Bon Iver did vocal and instrumental backups for nearly everyone. Well worth the ticket price.
In related news, I was talking to my mom about great this show was but the only person she had heard of was Bon Iver, and that was because my concert tickets accidentally got mailed to my parents’ house in December. She only vaguely recognized David Byrne. So now I have to blog about it.
